Two people have died while three others seriously injured, after a gas cylinder exploded in Kisenyi, Mbarara City.
According to Rwizi region police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, the explosion happened at around midday when some workers at a metal workshop tried to cut a gas cylinder into scrap.
Kasasira dismissed reports that were circulating on social media that it was a bomb identifying the deceased as Abubakar and Kusain.
The three injured persons have been admitted to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment and these are Gashom Kamusiime, John Tumwebaze and a one only identified as Emmanuel.
The Mbarara City Resident City Commissioner Lt Col James Mwesigye has appealed to the people of Mbarara, mainly scrap dealers, to always be cautious when buying metals.
