Ugandan forces have started shoring up supply routes into neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo where its army has set up an advance base to track down ADF rebels blamed for deadly attacks in Kampala.

Just before the entrance to Virunga Park in the east of the DRC, rows of army tents sprang up in the village of Mukakati.

About 13 kilometres (eight miles) from the base is the Nobili border crossing, through which columns of Ugandan soldiers, tarpaulin-covered trucks, tankers, armored vehicles and heavy machine guns have been passing every day for almost a week, tearing up the dirt road.

For the last two days, armies from both countries have carried out medical outreach programs and constructed water point facilities to the civilian population in Mukakati, Kitibombo and Kamango.

Speaking at one of the sensitization activities Col James Kasule explained that UPDF presence in DR Congo was moved by the ADF atrocities to citizens of both DRC and Uganda.

The Task Force Commander for Operation Shuja, Col James Kasule further called upon civilians to cooperate with the joint security forces and provide information leading to the elimination of wrong elements within communities

He promised peace after uprooting ADF from their hideouts and urged locals to take the sick to the treatment centers.

The FARDC Intelligence Officer Col Montana Kyalu expressed happiness in having the two armies coming together to end the insurgency situation in the region.
