UMEME ELUDES FEARS ON YAKA METER SYSTEM UPGRADE

editor
By editor

As the November 2024 deadline for the Yaka meter system upgrade approaches, power distributor Umeme has allayed concerns and assured users that the transition will be seamless.

According to Managing Director Selistino Babungi, out of the 1.9 million users on the grid, 300,000 have already adopted the new system, with plans to upgrade the remaining 1.6 million by October.

In response to questions raised since the announcement by the Minister of Energy, Ruth Nankabirwa, Babungi outlined the company’s strategy.

He said teams will be dispatched nationwide to assist users with the Yaka meters during the upgrade.

Additionally, users will have the option to perform the upgrade themselves by entering three sets of tokens sent to their mobile phones.

UMEME Limited is confident that with maximum cooperation from users, the upgrade of 1.6 million Yaka meters will be completed within a few months.
