The Kitagwenda County member of Parliament Joseph Nulu Byamukama has asked the Cabinet Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Tom Butime to intervene in matters of delayed Nyakahita, Buhweju,Ibanda,Kitagwenda –Rubirizi road.
During the launch of an electric fence along queen Elizabeth National Park a function that was held in Mahyoro Town council Kitagwenda District recently, Nulu said that the road in question was promised by President Museveni to the people of Kitagwenda around 2011 but unfortunately the road was later diverted to Bushenyi District.
He says Kitagwenda District has a lot of tourism potential hence urged the minister in-charge of Tourism to take over the road as a tourism road.
In response, Minister Butime said that as members of Parliament from the Rwenzori Region, they are soon meeting president Museveni and the issue of the diverted Kitagwenda Road will be addressed.
Meanwhile,residents of Mahyoro Town council have applauded the area Member of Parliament Nulu Joseph Byamukama for lobbing the electric fence.
Speaking to our reporter, some residents say for many years, park animals such as elephants, hippos, and buffalos have been ravaging farmers’ crops as well as killing people in the area but with this it’s a sigh of relief.
