WOMEN LAWYERS CALLS FOR FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO EXTEND PRO BONO SERVICES TO UNDERPRIVILEGED

editor
By editor

Women lawyers united under the Legal Room organization have called for financial support to extend free legal aid services to disadvantaged citizens unable to afford private legal representation.

Speaking at a press conference in Mbarara City, Counsel Fiona Matsika, the coordinator of Legal Room, highlighted the critical need for funding to sustain their efforts in delivering pro-bono services to marginalized communities.

Matsika reported that over the past six months, Legal Room has handled a total of 50 cases in the South Western region of Uganda. These cases include 20 instances of child sexual abuse and 10 disputes related to land conflicts, underscoring the diverse and pressing legal needs within the region

The plea for financial assistance comes amidst growing demand for legal services among vulnerable groups across Uganda.

Legal Room’s initiative aims not only to resolve legal disputes but also to empower individuals and promote equitable access to justice.
