The Minister of agriculture, animal husbandry, industry and fisheries Frank Kagyigi Tumwebaze wants the National Drugs Authority (NDA) to use the same efforts it applies in fighting counterfeit drugs for humans to also that of livestock.
This follows several livestock farmers’ complaints of counterfeit drugs on the market in Kiruhura District during an engagement meeting the minister convened together with his junior Bright Rwamirama.
According to some farmers in the District, counterfeit drugs are all over veterinary drug shops and they are not effective leading to death of their animals.
Now minister Tumwebaze has said together with his counterpart Rwamirama, they will put much emphasis on the control of counterfeit drugs which has resulted in drug resistance.
The minister revealed that he has already instituted a committee that will investigate the matter so that veterinary drug dealers with ill intentions are whipped out of the business.
