PRESIDENT MUSEVENI BANS IMPORTATION OF USED CLOTHES AND ELECTRICITY PRODUCTS

President Yoweri Museveni has banned the importation of electricity meter wires, cables and used clothes.

President Museveni made the directive yesterday shortly after commissioning 10 more factories at the Sino-Uganda Industrial Park in Mbale, eastern Uganda.

The factories are part of 55 others that will be established in the industrial park with a total value of $600 million.

He appealed to Ugandans to support him in stopping the importation of used clothes and electricity meters, wires and cables.

He warned that nobody would stop him from stopping the importation of old clothes, adding that some of these clothes belonged to dead bodies.

President Museveni promised to develop Mbale into an industrial town for the manufacture of products such as steel and others that include a lot of local raw materials.

The President said investors establishing industries in traditional towns and other areas in the country will benefit from a 10-year tax holiday.
