CIVIC EDUCATION IS NEEDED FOR PEACEFUL ELECTION IN 2026-ALOWA

In a bid to promote peaceful elections in Uganda, women activists in Uganda have bonded together under the All In One Women’s Association (ALOWA) to initiate a groundbreaking project titled “Civic Education Committees for Peaceful Elections in Uganda.” ahead of the 2026 general election.

Addressing the press at Hotel Triangle in Mbarara city, Faith Nimusiima, the project Coordinator ALOWA, said the initiative aims to establish civic education committees at district, sub-regional, and national levels.

These committees will play a crucial role in educating the public about electoral processes and resolving political conflicts through alternative means.

The primary objective of the initiative is to foster a peaceful electoral environment by mobilizing stakeholders to address issues that typically lead to political disputes and violence.

Nimusiima emphasized that the committees will work towards changing people’s attitudes and emotions that often exacerbate political tensions.

Mackbeth Komujuni the coordinator of the German Federal Foreign office expressed their aim to ensure that women and youth can participate in elections freely, without encountering coercion to vote for candidates they do not support.
