No Bad Blood – We’ve Just Moved On: Bobi Wine on Mpuuga Meeting

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has said he holds no personal animosity toward his former Buganda region deputy, Mathias Mpuuga.

Kyagulanyi clarified that the party decided to part ways with Mpuuga following his involvement in a controversial Shs 500 million service award, not due to any personal conflict.

He made the remarks on April 13, 2025, after attending the Kabaka’s 70th birthday thanksgiving mass at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala.

The event marked the first public appearance in months where Kyagulanyi and Mpuuga were seen exchanging greetings and chatting, despite their recent public disagreements.

When asked by journalists about the interaction, Kyagulanyi emphasized that their fallout was not driven by hatred.

“We have no personal grudge against our brother Mpuuga. There’s no ongoing feud. He simply made an error in judgment, one that was visible to all, and refused to acknowledge it. That’s why he was relieved of his duties. For us, that chapter is closed,” he said.

Mpuuga’s ties with NUP soured last year after the party accused him of corruption for accepting Shs 500 million under a “service award.”

The scandal stemmed from a Parliamentary Commission meeting held on May 6, 2022, where Mpuuga and three fellow commissioners allegedly allocated Shs 1.7 billion among themselves, despite having served for less than a year.

Mpuuga reportedly received Shs 500 million, while the other commissioners—Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central), Prossy Mbabazi (Rubanda District Woman MP), and Esther Afoyochan (Zombo District Woman MP)—were each awarded Shs 400 million. The revelations sparked widespread public backlash.

Thousands of people gathered at Rubaga Cathedral for the thanksgiving mass in honor of the Kabaka’s 70th birthday.

“We are grateful to God for the Kabaka’s remarkable 70 years and pray for continued health and wisdom as he leads his people. Agunde gunde Omuterega, Magulunyondo!” Kyagulanyi declared.
