Seven people have died and two others are critically injured following a road accident in Sheema Municipality.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 25, 2026, at around 6:30 a.m. at Rushara in Kabwohe along the busy Mbarara–Bushenyi Highway.
According to police, the accident involved motor vehicle registration number UA 702DL, a black Toyota Fielder, which was travelling from Bushenyi towards Mbarara at the time of the incident.
Apollo Tayebwa, the Acting Greater Bushenyi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said seven occupants died on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries.
The injured victims were rushed to ICOBI Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were returning home after attending overnight prayers at St. Rose Catholic Church, with some of the deceased believed to be residents of Rukinga, Kabingo, Kitooha, and Karushegu.
By press time, authorities had not yet officially released the identities of the deceased.
The bodies were taken to Kabwohe Health Centre III mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
