TWO PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANTS DIFFERED OVER FAILURE TO PAY NOMINATION FEES

The Electoral Commission has declined to nominate two presidential aspirants saying that they have failed to prove payment of 20 million shillings as one of the requirements for one to be nominated.

John Katumba who is seeking the highest office on independent ticket according to EC failed to pay the required nomination fee of 20 million Shillings as mandated by the Presidential Elections Act, as amended in 2015.

Also the independent candidate Nancy Kalembe Lind’s nomination was also differed after failing to prove that she paid the 20milling shillings as required.

Speaking to the media, Kalembe accepted to have not fulfilled the requirements but said that there was a late payment which she promised to correct and bounce bank before closing of the nomination tomorrow.

Justice Simon Byabakama, the presiding officer said without proof of payment he couldn’t go on with the nomination of the two but said they have up to tomorrow to show up with all what is needed.

However, Byabakama asked the presidential candidates to follow the set guidelines for smooth campaigns in the next three months.
