The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has today launched an air and artillery strike against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) camps in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Brig Flavia Byekwaso, the UPDF spokesperson, confirmed that the attack was jointly done with their counterparts in DR Congo.

The Democratic Republic Congo government spokesman Patrick Muyaya said the strikes came from the Ugandan side.

Sources in Eastern DRC said the attacks were near Nobili and Kamango towns in DRC near the Uganda border.

The number of rebels killed in the attack is yet to be ascertained.

On Sunday, it was reported that DR Congo President Felix Tshisekedi has raised an option of allowing Ugandan troops onto his soil to flush out ADF.

The urge to attack ADF hideouts in the thick DRC forests became inevitable after the twin blasts in Kampala a fortnight ago targeting the Central Police Station and along Parliamentary Avenue.
