NINSHABA REPLACES FALLEN HUSBAND FOR KAMWENGE TOWN COUNCIL MAYOR SEAT

Winnie Shine Ninshaba has been declared the winner of the Kamwenge LCIII chairperson by-election following elections held yesterday.

She defeated three other candidates to take a seat that fell vacant after the death of her husband Benjamin Matovu, who passed on a few days to the administration of the oath.

The other contestants in the race were Benon Mwebembezi, Jackson Barigye Mafene, and Wilson Katushabe.

According to the results released by the Kamwenge District Returning Officer George William Magezi, Ninshaba polled 2,578 votes, far ahead of the closest challenger Benon Mwebembezi who managed only 545 votes and Jackson Barigye Mafene was third with 122 votes while Wilson Katushabe had a paltry 55 votes.

Magezi, said there was a very poor turn up of voters across the 19 polling stations in the five wards that make up Kamwenge Town council, noting that only 3,323 voters tuned for the exercise out of the 10,570 registered voters.

Speaking to Endigyito radio shortly after being declared as the winner of the election, Ninshaba pledged to improve access to services for the people of Kamwenge Town council without discrimination.
