DIABETIC PATIENTS IN IBANDA CRY OUT OVER DIFFICULT IN ACCESSING DRUGS

Pressure, diabetic and hypertension patients in Ibanda district are facing hardships in accessing treatment.

According to Moses Nsereko the chairperson for the association of diabetic and hypertension patients in Ibanda says patients are finding it difficult to access treatment due to increased standards of living.

12 years ago, the patients mobilized resources and set up a private clinic at Ruhoko health center four where the doctors prescribe and order for medicines on their bill.

Now Nsereko says that patients who travel from long distances are finding it difficult in terms of cost since the treatment has also increased.

During a parliament session last week, Dr. Ninkusiima John Paul alias Panadol raised the matter before the floor of parliament blaming the ministry of health for neglecting diabetic and hypertension patients and adamantly refused to send medicines to lower health centers.

This forced the deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa who was chairing the parliament to direct the minister of health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng to report to parliament this week over the matter.

There are over 200 diabetic, pressure and hypertension patients across Ibanda district.
