The General Court Martial (GCM), chaired by Brig. Gen. Robert Freeman Mugabe has convicted an Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) agent who was found with 28 live bullets in Lwengo district.
Arafat Mugumya, 37, a businessman and resident of Mulyazawo ward, Lwengo town council in Lwengo, was yesterday convicted after admitting to the state brief facts, regarding possession of the said bullets.
Prosecutors Lt. Col. Raphael Mugisha, army Director of Prosecutions, Lt Alex Mukhwana, Private Regina Nanzala, and Private Anthony Phillip Olupot told the GCM that a joint security team comprising Police, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) operatives, and local authorities conducted a search operation in the convict’s home.
The search yielded the recovery of 28 live SMG ammunition, which prompted his arrest.
He was arraigned before the GCM on January 29, 2024, and charged with unlawful possession of ammunition to which he pleaded guilty.
This prompted the court to convict Mugumya, adjourning the case to March 4, 2024, for sentencing.
