VALENTINES DAY: WORKING DAY AN EXCUSE FOR SMAU MEMBERS NOT TO BUY GIFTS FOR THEIR LOVERS

editor
By editor

Valentine’s Day, February 14, has come on a busy day – a Wednesday – a perfect day for SMAU (Stingy Men’s Association Uganda) to have an excuse for work, as the  girls whose ears they have been whispering sweet words all the year hold on to nothing special.

Vendors along Kampala streets, Mbarara streets among other towns took it personally to mock men who were passing by their stalls without buying any Valentine’s gifts for their loved ones.

The majority of the buyers were women mostly as out of 10, one could only trace two men purchasing a Valentine’s gift.

The situation brought a big question to many as if Valentine’s Day is typically a holiday for ladies and a nightmare for men.

However, many Kampala traders who were selling gifts cashed in as lovers flocked in to do the last-minute shopping as they prepared to celebrate their Valentine’s Day.

The mood in the city was romantic and painted red with Valentine’s gifts ranging from flowers, cards, Teddy bears, photo frames branded with love messages, chocolates and not to forget the new money flower gifts.

Sera Klez of Giftsavers UG was excited about the turnout of customers compared to that of last year where they almost encountered losses.
