Councilors have been called upon to serve the country and represent their electorates but not expect money in the council as a source of income.
This call was made by the Executive director Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment ACODE Dr. Aurther Bainomugisha at the two days training of District councilors and District leaders held at the Mbarara District council hall.
According to Bainomugisha, the training was intended to let the Councilors know their roles and orient them on how to conduct themselves while in leadership.
He advised the councilors to have side business which can support them financially reminding them that there is life to live after the term of office.
Bainomugisha continued and urged Mbarara district council to always have a five year development plan for better planning of the government funds.
In his remarks, the Resident District Commissioner Mbarara district Emmy Kateera Turyabagyengyi urged councilors to be patriotic and serve diligently.
He noted that being patriotic would be the one way to curb corruption in the country.
