GOVERNMENT REINSTATES TRADE ORDER IMPLEMENTATION IN URBAN AREAS

Admin
By Admin

Government has announced the reinstatement of full implementation of the Trade Order across all urban centres, reversing an earlier decision by Parliament to suspend the directive.

Speaking to the media, the Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, said Cabinet, during its sitting held at State House Entebbe, reviewed Parliament’s position and resolved to continue enforcing the Trade Order in cities, municipalities, and town councils.

The move comes after an earlier communication from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, David Bahati, who had indicated that Parliament had suspended implementation of the directive.

Magyezi said Cabinet’s decision was based on what it described as positive results already seen in areas where the Trade Order has been implemented, including improved organisation and order within the business sector.

He added that the renewed enforcement will be supported by intensified public sensitisation campaigns to help traders and the wider public understand the benefits of the policy.

To address concerns from traders, the Minister said a taskforce has been set up within the Ministry of Local Government to engage stakeholders and handle complaints from affected business operators.

Magyezi also cautioned enforcement officers to carry out the directive in a humane manner, urging them to avoid brutality while implementing the policy.
