The Mbarara district Finance Officer Gilbert Bataringaya is on Spot for swindling government funds amounting to Uganda shillings 72Millions.

It is alleged that Bataringaya failed to account for the 72million shillings which was meant for construction and upgrade of a health centre in the district.

During the district Public Accounts Committee meeting, Bataringaya found it hard to account for the money prompting the committee chairperson Herbert Kamugisha to give him one month to come up with clear explanation.

After the meeting while speaking to journalists about the matter, asked journalists not to interest themselves in the matter promising them to meet them in the evening “sort and make them smile”.

However, he threatened to deal with any journalist who will report about the matter which he called tarnishing his name in the public.

It remains unclear if he will report back with clear accountability after amonth which was given to him by the committee.
