The State Minister for Economic Monitoring Molly Kamukama has rushed to court to stop the nomination and endorsement of Jenipher Muheesi Abaho for the Kazo Woman Member of Parliament in the forthcoming elections on the ruling NRM ticket.
Last month, the NRM electoral commission announced Muheesi as the winner of the party primaries for Kazo woman MP seat after garnering 16802 votes against Kamukama’s 16715 votes.
In his application to the civil division of the High Court in Mbarara, Kamukama challenges Abaho’s election and wants court to stop her nomination until the main case is disposed off.
The minister also wants court to issue an order stopping the NRM electoral commission from nominating and endorsing any other person as the party flag bearer until the case is disposed of.
In the suit, the ruling NRM party, its electoral commission, election disputes tribunal and Jenipher Muheesi Abaho are listed as respondents.
Following the September 4 party primaries which were marred with several incidents of violence and other forms of chaos, the NRM electoral commission took almost over a week before announcing the winner of the highly contested Kazo district election.
