NOMINATIONS FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL LEADERS STARTS TODAY

The Electoral Commission (EC) has rolled out nominations for the local government councils.

According to EC, nominations of candidates to contest for 45,127 elective positions at local government councils, start today and will end on October 1st.

Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesperson, said the positions include district/city chairpersons and councilors, municipality/city division chairpersons and councilors, and sub-county/town/municipal division chairpersons and councilors.

Last month, the EC opened the exercise for aspirants to express interest in the various local government positions across the country.

According to the EC website, district and city chairpersons are required to present at nomination centres at least an A-Level certificate, signatures of 50 registered voters from two-thirds of each electoral area and Shs200,000.
