The Uganda national teachers Union (UNATU) is negotiating with banks and the Ntungamo district local government following teachers being put on a wanted list by banking institutions after defaulting salary loans.
The UNATU district chairperson Gideons Kabangizi says the teachers are said to have swapped salaries for different banks after getting salary loans from primary banks leaving the accounts from the latter banks idle thus no payments for loans in effect.
He said accordingly 120 teachers and some district officials are being investigated for fraud adding that Stanbic and centenary banks are the most affected with this action
Three district officials, the information technology officer Julius Ashaba, chief finance officer Andrew Byaruhanaga and former chief administration officer Nakityo Joanita were last month arrested over fraud by the Inspectorate of Government for misusing over UShs 90M.
