Medics at Mbarara regional referral hospital have revealed that the cause of death for the Ntungamo district health officer Dr Richard Bakamuturaki was cardiac arrest resulting from limited oxygen intake at the sauna where he collapsed from.
Dr Bakamuturaki died on Sunday evening minutes after collapsing in a sauna at Ntungamo resort hotel and spur where he had gone for relaxation.
A postmortem report by the hospital seen by our reporter sighted the cause of death as cardiac arrest arising from low oxygen intake at the time of the heart condition.
Cardiac arrest is a situation brought about by an unexpected stoppage of the heart to pump enough blood to the body.
Mbarara regional referral hospital director Dr Celestine Barigye also confirmed to relatives and the Ntungamo district the cause of death.
The Ntungamo district police OC CID Godes Twinamatsiko say police are waiting for a postmortem report to make a breakthrough in investigations but says they have since opened a general inquiry file as they ruled out possible physical strangulation following physical assessment of the body.
