The government has urged districts not to utilise the sh1b allocations per district that were recently disbursed to them for road infrastructure during the ongoing rainy period.
In a statement yesterday, works minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala said this could result in waste.
Instead, he said the government and its agencies are exploring short, medium, and long-term strategies to enhance the resilience of the infrastructure against extreme weather events.
He noted that the rains have caused significant damage to road and bridge infrastructure owing to the widespread flooding, landslides, and erosion.
He added that the resultant deterioration and, in some cases, complete failure of critical transportation networks will be worked upon comprehensively after the rains subside.
In the interim, according to the minister, the public is advised to exercise caution while using damaged sections and approaching flooded sections of roads and bridges and avoid taking unnecessary risks where water levels have risen.
