Thirty eight farmers in Mbarara district have received 110 piglets from the government under Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) program.
The piglets which cost government shs 400000 each were given to farmers yesterday at the function presided over by RDC Mbarara Mbetegyerize Godfrey at saza headquarters in Bwizibwera town council.
In his remarks RDC Mbetegyerize cautioned the beneficiaries to take good care and management of the so that they can produce and multiply.
The Mbarara District Veterinary officer Dr Andrew Akashaba said the total cost of the pigs was shs 44 million and among the farmers who applied for the offer included Bishop Stuart University, some UPDF veterans and women of veterans in Mbarara city in addition to Mbarara district farmers.
Dr Akashaba urged the benefitting farmers to handle piggery as profitable business whose market both domestic and export is all the time available.
